We offer an additional layer of security for your GOG account with two-step login. When enabled, two-step login verifies your identity through your chosen method each time you log in to your account.
With two-step login enabled, your identity will be verified whenever you log in from a new device, browser and/or location.
By default, email code authentication is activated on your GOG account. You can deactivate two-step login in your account settings, though we do not recommend doing so.
Two-Step Login Methods: Authenticator App and Email Verification
-
Authenticator App
- Overview: For a more secure and convenient two-step login experience, you can use an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator). These apps generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), providing an extra layer of security beyond email verification.
-
Setup Process:
- Download an Authenticator App: Install a reputable authenticator app on your smartphone from your device’s app store.
- Enable Authenticator App in Your GOG Account: In your GOG account settings, navigate to the Login and Security tab. In the Two-Factor Authentication section, select the option to use an authenticator app.
- Scan QR Code: The GOG platform will display a QR code. Open your authenticator app, choose to add a new account, and scan the QR code.
- Verify Setup: Enter the six-digit code generated by your authenticator app into the GOG website to confirm that the setup works correctly.
- Secure Backup Codes: Copy the provided backup codes and store them in a secure location. These codes allow you to recover your account if you lose access to your authenticator app.
-
Benefits:
- Enhanced Security: Authenticator apps are less susceptible to phishing attacks compared to email-based codes.
- Convenience: Access codes quickly without switching between apps or checking your email.
-
Email Verification
- Process: After entering your login credentials in your browser or in GOG GALAXY, we send an email with a four-digit code to the email address associated with your GOG account. This code is valid for 15 minutes, after which it can no longer be used to log in to your account.
-
Usage Tips:
- Do Not Close the Login Window: Ensure you don't close the login window before entering the code, as a new code is generated each time you input your account credentials.
- Use the Most Recent Code: If you attempt to log in multiple times, make sure to enter only the latest code, as previous codes will not be accepted.
Please note that only one method of authentication can be used at a time.
