CHANGE VSYNC SETTING
Check if the game allows you to enable or disable VSync (other possible names are vertical sync, vertical refresh and similar). Please try both options.
If there is no such setting, try forcing these settings in your graphics card's drivers. To do this, right-click an empty area on your desktop and select:
- For NVIDIA graphics:
Navigate to NVIDIA Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings -> select the game from the list -> Set VSync to On.
- For newer AMD graphics:
Navigate to Radeon Settings -> Games ->select the game from the list -> Change Wait for vertical synchronization to Always on.
- For older ATI/AMD graphics:
Navigate to Catalyst Control Center -> Gaming -> 3D Application Settings -> All -> Wait for vertical refresh -> Change the slider to Quality to set V-sync to Always On
- For IntelHD graphics:
Navigate to IntelHD Graphics Control Panel -> 3D -> General Settings -> Custom Settings -> Vertical Sync -> On
- For older Intel graphics, please follow this article:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005552/graphics-drivers.html
If results are not satisfying, you should experiment with different VSync settings in your graphics device control program. Different games respond to VSync differently on different systems, and the result could be input lag, visual "tearing", or reduced framerate.
CHECK IF THE GAME IS RUNNING ON MULTIPLE CORES AND, IF NEEDED, FORCE IT TO ONLY USE ONE
To do this, Alt-Tab out of the game, go into the Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc), select the Processes (Details - Windows 10 users) tab, right-click the game's process, click "Set Affinity..." and make sure that only "CPU 0" is selected, then click OK and go back to the game.
NVIDIA ONLY - SWITCH TO SINGLE DISPLAY PERFORMANCE MODE
Go to NVIDIA Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings, and make sure that the “Multi- display/mixed-GPU acceleration” is set to “Single Display performance mode.”
CHANGE POWER SAVING MODE
Press WinKey+R. In Run window type:
control
And press Ok. This will open Control Panel, and from here navigate to Power Options and change Power Saving Mode (it may be called Minimal Power Management) to something more power-intensive, like for example: High Performance.
TRY DIFFERENT COMPATIBILITY MODE
Please right-click the game's shortcut, go into Properties, click the Compatibility tab and try different compatibility modes.
